Federal leak-repair calculations under 40 CFR Part 84 generally apply, from January 1, 2026, to appliances charged with 15 lbs or more of covered HFC refrigerants (commercial refrigeration 20%, industrial process 30%, comfort cooling 10%). Residential and light-commercial AC/heat pumps are excluded. R-22 systems are assessed under Section 608 rules (50 lb threshold). Selecting California adds California CARB RMP requirements (14-day repair clock). The engine computes your statutory applicability and deadlines from your inputs.

Statutory category per 40 CFR § 84.106 / § 82.156; it sets the leak-rate trigger.
Charge size alone cannot establish applicability; confirm from equipment documentation.
From the equipment nameplate. Low-GWP refrigerants are outside the federal leak-repair trigger.
Nameplate charge per independent circuit. Part 84 calculations generally start at 15 lbs for covered equipment.
California facilities can owe both federal (30-day baseline) and state CARB RMP (14-day) duties; the result lists them separately.

LeakGuard 84 is a statutory calculation and recordkeeping tool. Calculations are evaluated under 40 CFR Part 84 Subpart C, Clean Air Act Section 608, and California CARB RMP (17 CCR § 95380 et seq.). A calculation record does not replace on-site certified technician leak inspections or physical repair verification.
